Dermal Filler

Dermal filler treatments are used to restore bulk to the curves of the face and smooth out wrinkles. The process involves using a very fine needle to inject a hyaluronic acid gel beneath the skin. Hyaluronic acid is a natural component of skin tissue which maintains local moisture content and is gradually reabsorbed over time. For filler treatments it is injected in the form of a transparent viscoelastic gel. The treatment we provide is not of animal origin.

Typically the treatment is used for:
- skin folds and wrinkles around the nose and / or mouth
- crows feet around the eyes
- lines and wrinkles on the forehead
- lip augmentation.

      Eyes before                             Eyes after

          Lips before                             Lips after

The filling effect is immediate after treatment, although it may take a few days (with lip augmentation up to 1 week,) before the injected gel settles to its final effect. Depending upon the area treated, dermal fillers smooth medium to superficial wrinkles, fill out furrows, restore the sensuality of your lips and smooth the curves of your face. The effects of the treatment usually last between six and nine months.

After the treatment some common injection-related reactions may occur, such as swelling, redness, pain, itching, discoloration and tenderness at the implant site. These typically resolve spontaneously within one to two days after injection into the skin and within a week after injection into the lips.

The treatment will not be typically given to:
- Anyone who has received treatment with a dermal filler in the same area in the past 6 months
- Anyone who is allergic to hyaluronic acid
- Anyone who is suffering from active cold sores on their face.
People who have previously had cold sores (herpes simplex) should note that there is always a risk that injecting any product around the lips may cause the herpes to flare up again. Anyone taking steroids or anticoagulant medication should be aware that there is an increased risk of bruising at the injection site.
