Fixation of Transverse Testicle (Orchidopexy) Operation

The testicles are normally positioned in the scrotum and in longitudinal position. Some men might have one or both testicles in a transverse position (Transverse testicles). Also one or both testicles might be felt high in the scrotum, near the groin or may be completely absent on one or both sides (This is known as undecided testicles). This might cause testicular discomfort or pain on sitting, during sexual intercourse, trauma or sudden movement. The testicle in this position is at risk of getting twisted causing severe testicular pain and might be removed surgically if the blood supply was lost for about six hours. So Fixation of the testicle is advisable as a routine rather than emergency operation.

Diagnosis is usually made during clinical examination. The operation is usually performed under general anaesthetic as a day care. A small scrotum incision is made and fixation is performed using sutures. Skin sutures might be buried under the skin.
